BMSIS Visiting Scholar: Rajat Bhushan Gupta

Rajat Bhushan Gupta (RBG) is a multifaceted professional with a diverse background in electronics engineering, materials science, nanotechnology, data science, and astrobiology. Born on December 22, 1989, in New Delhi, India, his journey in the world of science and technology has been marked by a relentless pursuit of knowledge and a thirst for innovation.

RBG’s academic journey began at Visvesvaraya Technological University (India), where he earned his bachelor’s degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering in 2012. His fascination with pushing the boundaries of technology led him to pursue advanced studies. In 2015, he completed his master’s degree in Materials Science and Nanotechnology at Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology, delving into the world of materials on a nanoscopic scale and exploring their applications in targeted medicine and renewable energy. He joined a cutting-edge research team at a renowned biomedical research institute (CSIR-NPL, New Delhi) as a graduate assistant, where he contributed to the development of nanoscale devices for targeted drug delivery and radiation therapy.

The intersection of science and data drew RBG into the then-emerging field of data science. Leveraging his expertise in computation and mathematics, he delved into the analysis of large datasets, uncovering patterns and insights that informed decision-making in various industries. His proficiency in data-driven approaches solidified his reputation as a versatile and forward-thinking professional. At present, he holds 8 years of experience as a data science practitioner.

Eager to explore the mysteries of and beyond the Earth, RBG is currently enrolled in a second master’s degree in Astrobiology from the prestigious University of Naples Federico II (UNINA) in Naples, Italy. This highly interdisciplinary field allows him to combine his engineering, computational, and scientific skills to explore the potential for life beyond our planet and also answer questions related to the birth, evolution, and sustainability of Earth and life on Earth itself.

Recognizing the importance of effective communication in advancing scientific discoveries and with the ambition of creating a thriving Astrobiology community, RBG founded ‘Astrobiology Buzz’ on Twitter. Here, he honed his skills in information gathering, graphic designing, translating complex concepts into accessible and compelling narratives, fostering collaborations with fellow astrobiologists worldwide, and creating awareness of the importance of promoting basic scientific research.

Driven by a desire to make a positive impact on society, RBG has been an active volunteer with various non-profit organizations since high school days. He became involved in various initiatives aimed at promoting human rights, climate change, sustainability, skill development, and STEM education among underprivileged communities. His leadership in these endeavors earned him recognition for his commitment to fostering diversity and inclusion in the scientific and non-scientific community at large.

In his pursuit of knowledge and innovation, Rajat Bhushan Gupta continues to be a dynamic force at the intersection of science, technology, and entrepreneurship. His journey serves as an inspiration for aspiring scientists and entrepreneurs, showcasing the potential of interdisciplinary expertise in driving progress and shaping the future.
