BMSIS Staff Scientist: Alexis Torres

Hello everyone! I’m Alexis Torres, a new Staff Scientist here at Blue Marble.

I recently completed my MS in Bioinformatics at San Jose State University. As the COVID-19 pandemic unfolded, I got my first look at the scientific community’s fervor and collaboration in addressing pressing challenges, which was truly inspiring. At the same time, I was learning about applications of bioinformatics in astrobiology, and was compelled to get involved in this frontier in biological research. This led me to join an analog research study focused on understanding the effects of microgravity on blood clotting. Now, as a part of the Blue Marble and NASA GeneLab teams, I’m excited to continue working in bioinformatics, focusing on the areas that I am most passionate about.

In my free time, I enjoy hanging out with my two cats Darwin and Aida, listening to music, watching soccer and supporting Arsenal FC, participating in book clubs, and I am currently learning the piano.
